Your Work Is Your World

Your Work Is Your World: A Half-Day Retreat on Right Livelihood

with devon hase

Saturday, May 8, 2027 · 10 am to 1 pm Pacific time

You’ll spend much of your waking life working.

How do we make all those hours the actual, living dharma?

We tend to think practice happens on the cushion and work is what we do in between. But the mind doesn’t compartmentalize. Eight or ten hours a day of grasping, defending, performing, or numbing out lays down grooves — and those grooves are who you become. Whatever quality of attention your work asks of you, that’s the mind you’re training, far more hours than you’ll ever spend meditating.

Right Livelihood takes that seriously. It asks what your work is doing to you, and through you, to others and to a world already under strain.

What We’ll Explore Together

In this half-day online retreat, devon explores Right Livelihood: the place the practice meets the forty-hour week and everything it’s tangled up in. We’ll stay in that discomfort long enough to find where the room to move actually is.

The morning begins with an opening conversation around the theme, followed by lightly guided sitting and walking practice, and closes with a dharma talk and time for questions.

A Full Path of Practice—Rooted in Community

🪴 Monthly Half-Day Retreats – This is the fifth in an annual series of eight online half-days offered by Refuge of Belonging, a dharma community rooted in presence and open to all.

🪴 The Eightfold Path – The Buddha’s eightfold path is the heart of the practice: eight interwoven factors, from view and intention to mindfulness and concentration, that together form a complete way of living and waking up.

🪴 devon + nico – Refuge of Belonging’s guiding teachers lead the series together, trading off and teaching in pairs across the year, bringing both monastic depth and a grounded, contemporary voice to the path.

What People Are Saying

“Practicing meditation with devon has enhanced my ability to function as a radiologist because I have a greater awareness of where my attention is directed and a greater capability of directing it.”

— Steve Edson, MD, Radiologist, Ashland, OR
