Listening: A Half-Day Retreat on Right Mindfulness

with devon + nico hase

Saturday, July 10, 2027 · 10 am to 1 pm Pacific time

Sati, the word we translate as mindfulness, first means remembering.

Remembering to stay present, to keep noticing what’s happening instead of losing the thread.

What you notice is your own experience, watched closely enough to see how it works. The body. The feeling-tone that colors things before you’ve named them. The state of the mind itself — grasping, resisting, contracted, open. The Buddha calls these the foundations of mindfulness, and if you stay with any of them long enough you begin to see that it’s all in motion, less solid and less personal than it seemed.

Which is the beginning of liberation itself.

What We’ll Explore Together

In this half-day online retreat, devon and nico explore Right Mindfulness through its four foundations — body, feeling-tone, mind, and the contents of experience. We’ll steady the attention until it can stay with what’s here, pleasant, unpleasant, or unremarkable, and begin to see clearly what’s actually going on.

The morning begins with an opening conversation around the theme, followed by lightly guided sitting and walking practice, and closes with a dharma talk and time for questions.

A Full Path of Practice—Rooted in Community

🪴 Monthly Half-Day Retreats – This is the seventh in an annual series of eight online half-days offered by Refuge of Belonging, a dharma community rooted in presence and open to all.

🪴 The Eightfold Path – The Buddha’s eightfold path is the heart of the practice: eight interwoven factors, from view and intention to mindfulness and concentration, that together form a complete way of living and waking up.

🪴 devon + nico – Refuge of Belonging’s guiding teachers lead the series together, trading off and teaching in pairs across the year, bringing both monastic depth and a grounded, contemporary voice to the path.

“devon and nico’s workshops have a sense of community, a warmth and humanity that make me feel very much at home. I feel that I am growing and I am not alone in the process of growing. I highly recommend experiencing them for yourself.”
